The Queen's Ferry Hotel first opened in 1865, and housed the first drinking establishment in Auckland. The first beer was poured on 19 April, 1865 and the building has continued to hold a license since then. Back in the 1800's they used to have cages in the basement where they locked sailors after drinking sessions so they would not miss their boats the next day. The Queens Ferry Hotel is still home to a number of Auckland pubs including; The Occidental, Vultures Lane, The Lobby & The Gin Room.
