Police are struggling to identify a woman who was struck by a train at the Puhinui railway station on Tuesday night.
It is believed she walked in front of the passenger train about 5.30pm and was killed instantly.
She is described as a Maori or Pacific Islander and aged between 40 and 50.
The woman was of medium build, 1.65m tall with short black hair.
Police say she was wearing a purple beanie, and a grey, long-sleeve zip-up jersey over a green long-sleeve jersey that had a floral design around the neck.
Her pants were grey in colour.
The victim had black socks which had a checkered pattern, and black sandals with a white stripe.
Police released pictures of her jewellery in the hope they would help in identifying her.
The jewellery includes a gold woman's wrist watch and a white metal pendant with the word "love" on a glittered green background.
There are also two gold half moon-shaped earrings and a yellow gold-coloured necklace with black and clear stones.
Police spokeswoman Angeline Barlow said police had been working without success to identify the woman using usual methods of identification.
Anyone who recognises the woman from the descriptions, or has not recently heard from someone close to them who fits the description, is asked to contact the Otahuhu police by phoning(09) 295-0200.
