Eketahuna flanker Shaan Waru is one of three finalists for the Wellington Rugby Union's Women's Player of the Year award which will be decided next Wednesday.
Waru was an integral part of the Eketahuna team which created history by winning the Fleur Trophy and Victoria Tavern Trophy inter-club competitions in Wellington this season.
And she was equally as outstanding for Wellington when they finished runners-up to Auckland in the national provincial series, so outstanding in fact she was on the fringes of selection for the Black Ferns side which leaves today for a three-test tour of England.
Two current Eketahuna players in Rebecca Mahoney and Shakira Baker are in that team, along with Kathleen Wilton, who was in Otago last year but will be back with Eketahuna next year.
Competing with Waru for the Women's Player of the Year award are two fellow Wellington reps in Ponisitia Paasi (Marist St Pats) and Ruby Finau (Petone).
