WAYNE who ?
That seemed to be the general reaction when the announcement of the Warriors new CEO was announced.
Wayne Scurrah 's background includes a long career in business management but for us sporting addicts he was hardly a household name, was he?
Fair to say though that Scurrah's curriculum vitae won't matter a toss to the rugby league faithful.
What they want is a Warriors team performing to their potential on a consistent basis.
It seems a long time ago, doesn't it, when something like that actually occurred.
All sorts of excuses are trotted out season after season as to why the Warriors have under-performed.
But what makes their lack of success unfathomable to me is that talent-wise ,they would match basically any other side in the NRL.
They have the size, the speed and the flair to take top teams apart, and occasionally they do exactly that.
But generally they are guilty of either botching tries themselves or conceding "soft" tries to the opposition.
And of having key players sidelined for misdemeanours which simply shouldn't be tolerated at the level at which they are playing.
You have to wonder too about their selection policies, don't you?
I mean just how much will they miss the incomparable Stacey Jones next season?
I know all the talk from within the club has been that the Little General 's decision to move on was his own, but if that was the case ? and I doubt it was ? then you have to wonder why Warriors management didn't go all out to entice him to stay.
The fact is that to the bulk of rugby league fans in this country Stacey Jones was the Warriors.
They could bring in all the big names they like such as Price and Wiki, but it was the Jones boy who was forever top of the pops with the general public.
So it was a bad look when his move to France was confirmed and it will be interesting to see how his absence affects their following in 2006.
It will be interesting too to see whether Scurrah adopts the same high profile as the man he replaces in the CEO role, Mick Watson.
Watson was forever making statements on this, that and everything, and there were times when it seemed like he was manager, coach and ball boy.
Warriors board chairman Maurice Kidd has been quoted as saying that Scurrah will not have any say in the signing and coaching of players, that his role will be predominately a business one.
That at least is a step in the right direction.
