Door-knocking "contractors" offering tree trimming services may not be qualified arborists, North Shore City Council is warning.
Council resource manager Stefan Naude said people wearing high-visibility vests had been knocking on doors in the North Shore and offering to trim trees for a small charge.
The workers cite recent changes to the Resource Management Act to appear legitimate but may not be properly qualified to carry out tree maintenance, he said.
Residents should ask for business cards and a written quote to ensure they were dealing with qualified arborists, he said.
