The arrest of a 25-year-old man on Saturday has prompted Waikato police to warn of the dangers of misusing replica or imitation firearms.
Hamilton police were called to an incident about 6.30pm where a handgun was pointed out of the window of a 4WD at the driver of a car, Sergeant Neil Faulkner said.
Armed police found and stopped the car.
"An air pistol and other weapons were located in the vehicle and a 25-year-old Auckland man arrested on a variety of driving, firearms and drugs charges," Mr Faulkner said.
"Yet again we have had a very serious situation, where police responding to a report of a very real threat have responded accordingly.
"People misusing such items as imitation or replica firearms need to know just how much risk they are placing their lives and the lives of others in," Mr Faulkner said.
