KEY POINTS:
Aucklanders are being warned to be extra cautious when lighting fireworks tonight as winds are expected to reach over 100km/h in parts of the region.
Chief Fire Safety Officer Murray Binning said it is safer for people to go to public displays, rather than lighting their own fireworks.
He said the strong winds could cause fireworks to be blown over, or misdirected.
In the last 48-hours there have been a number of significant property fires.
He said it has not be determined whether they were caused by fireworks.
