Overweight New Zealanders have an increased risk of high blood pressure which leads to a higher risk of stroke and heart disease, says the Stroke Foundation, which is using World Hypertension Day today to raise awareness of preventable illnesses such as stroke, heart and kidney diseases caused by high blood pressure.
The foundation is encouraging people to have their blood pressure checked at least twice a year.
