Coach Mark Harris expects good results from locals in the competition, which will attract clubs from over the lower North Island, although he concedes most are still in the early stages of preparation and will improve.
Several Wairarapa athletes were in a "fun meet" on the Pelorus Trust all-weather track at the Pugh Sports Bowl on Saturday. While the full track won't be laid until next month the completed parts proved ideal with some handy times recorded.
