Fire safety officers will today begin an investigation into the cause of a Auckland warehouse blaze which took 80 firefighters to bring under control.
Firefighters were today still damping down hotspots at Corporate Consumables in Mt Wellington which supplies office-related equipment and supplies.
The fire began shortly before 5pm and at its height more than 20 fire appliances were pouring water onto the burning building as roads were closed and peak-hour traffic built up.
Fire safety officer Ray Coleman said it was too soon to say how the fire began because it was too dangerous to get into the building last night after the fire had been put out.
"We have to look at the health and safety factors given the condition of the factory and we weren't prepared to put ourselves anywhere near it as dusk was coming," he told NZPA this morning.
"We have got no preconceived ideas. We will just work our way through."
Mr Coleman said the warehouse was full of highly combustible material and was burning fiercely when firefighters arrived.
There was no reason to think the fire was suspicious although the inquiry had yet to begin.
