Police are investigating a confirmed sighting of the man who impersonated another prisoner to escape from Christchurch District Court.
William Steven Cooper, 19, was scheduled to appear on robbery and firearms charges on Monday, but evaded court custody. A warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Police were today following up on a reported sighting of Cooper around Moorhouse Avenue, Canterbury District communications manager Stephen Hill told NZPA.
"It's the only confirmed sighting so far," he said.
Police warn Cooper is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
Cooper also goes by the names "Billy", "Will" and "Gamble".
He is described as a 187cm tall Maori with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured checked shirt, trackpants and black shoes with a large white Nike tick on the side.
