A man wanted by police in connection with the killing of an Auckland dairy worker has been arrested.
Christopher Robert Smith was arrested in New Plymouth at about 7.20am, police said.
Auckland police investigating the murder of Bhagubhai Vaghela at the Uptown Minimart in Eden Terrace on Sunday are in New Plymouth to interview Smith.
He was located after tip-offs and police, assisted by members of the armed offenders squad, raided an address.
No shots were fired but a weapon was recovered from the house, police said. No one else was arrested.
Smith was being sought by police for the aggravated robbery of the Bucklands Beach Superette on June 5.
Detective Inspector Bernie Hollewand said he appreciated the public assistance.
"We have by no means solved our murder investigation - far from it - but we're heartened by the support signalled by Mr Smith's arrest. "We're still trying to identify the man who robbed the Parkside Dairy on Queen St, Pukekohe at gunpoint on June 10. "
Anyone with information about who that offender might be or with information that might assist the homicide investigation should call 0800 736 325.
