Wanted Greymouth man loses control of car in Taylorville after trying to evade police

A Greymouth man wanted by police for breach of bail lost control of his vehicle at Taylorville late last night while trying to evade police.

Taylorville residents awoke this morning to the spectacle of a 1990s Nissan Primera which had nose-dived into a vacant section next door to the former Buck's Head Tavern.

It was the site of a vehicle crash seven years ago which ended in tragedy.

Greymouth prevention sergeant Paul Watson said the driver tried to evade police "and lost control as he entered Taylorville".

The driver was wanted for breach of bail and was spotted by a patrol going through Taylorville.

He was not injured and appeared in court before Justice of the Peace Andrea Forrest this morning.

Toa Tokomaru Marino, 32, was remanded on further bail after police agreed to delete reporting conditions.

Marino was bailed to reside at a Runanga address with a 9pm to 7am curfew.

He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court in February for a judge-alone trial but was given leave to make an application regarding his curfew at a registrar's conference in Greymouth next week.
