KEY POINTS:
Two Wanganui men charged by police investigating the murder of a two-year-old girl have been granted name suppression.
When they appeared in court after a delay of about 15 minutes caused by a fire deliberately lit in a rubbish bin in a court cell, both men were remanded in custody until May 15.
Earlier the judge in the case put off the hearing at Wanganui District Court until 11.20am while he sorted through various media applications.
One of the men, aged 18, faces charges of assault, involvement in a riot in Puriri St, possession of an offensive weapon (a bottle), unlawful assembly and unlawfully entering a building.
The other man, aged 31 is accused of unlawful assembly.
The incidents are alleged to have happened prior to the shooting of Jhia Harmony Te Tua on Saturday night.
The men arrived in a prison van and banged on the windows, holding their fists to the grille.
They were taken into the court through a back entrance amid tight security including armed police.
Moments later six Mongrel Mob members arrived outside the court. One went inside only to come out again a few minutes later.
One attempted to enter the court building but was stopped by police and told people wearing gang colours were not allowed in.
The others milled around outside keeping their faces covered and then left.
