A toddler found wandering in a Palmerston North street in pyjamas this morning has been reunited with his mother.
The boy had perplexed police because no one has reported him missing after two hours.
Sergeant Jeff Veale said he understood the boy was "a bit of an escape artist".
Mr Veale said the boy's mother had been looking for him, but did not think to call police.
The woman's mother heard something about a missing child on the radio and alerted her daughter, who then contacted police.
A member of the public contacted police after finding the boy walking along residential Featherston Street at 7.30am.
Mr Veale said the boy had not been in distress.
