Wanderers take local championship

Sports Arena Carterton Wanderers have won the Wai
rarapa football local league championship for 2010.
Last year's runners-up guaranteed they would go one better
when they beat arch rivals Trevs Sports Masterton Athletic 4-0 in
the the final series of matches.
It was nervous times for Carterton Wanderers, who went into
the game knowing anything less than victory would see them
pipped at the post by White Swan Greytown.
A 4-0 scoreline might suggest a comfortable win but the game was
much closer than that would suggest with Wanderers opening
their account within the first five minutes but then being forced to
defend for practically the rest of the first half.
The second spell was an even contest until Athletic conceded an
own goal and from that point on Wanderers were in control, adding
two more goals to their tally to make the result safe.
They finished the league season with an excellent record of
12 wins and one draw from their 13 matches and are now in the
process of defending the super league and knockout titles they
won 12 months ago.
