A Wanaka man was found unconscious behind a BP service station, after an assault in which police believe he was kicked in the head.
The 27-year-old was found around 1.30am today, behind the BP service station on Ardmore St in Wanaka.
He was taken to Dunedin Hospital, and is now in a serious but stable condition.
Police said they were still speaking with the victim, but they believed he was kicked in the head.
Wanaka Police are now working to establish the circumstances around the assault, and are appealing for any witnesses or people with information to get in touch.
