More than 1000 people took up an ultimate walker's challenge on the weekend, striding 100km in 36 hours at this year's Oxfam Trailwalker event in Taupo. A total of 282 teams including Team TIS - three firefighters and a firefighter's wife - hit the pavement starting from 6am on Saturday.
Team TIS proved hardiest, coming in first in 13 hours, 14 minutes.
One walker was so inspired he dropped to one knee and asked his girlfriend to marry him - a proposal met with a happy "yes". Oxfam hopes to raise up to $1.3 million from the event.
