Sean Latimer and Melanie Lynch made the most of the icy weather yesterday, taking 2-year-old Lucas and 3-year-old Chloe for a walk in the snow in Flagstaff, Otago. Dog Bindi also went along.
Meanwhile, the interisland ferry Arahua got some fiery action on the seas in Wellington, with strong winds sending lashings of water towards it.
Icy weather and strong gales continued to batter several parts of the country.
There was heavy snowfall in a number of regions, including the central North Island and Canterbury.
Around 4cm to 8cm of snow fell over parts of the Volcanic Plateau.
A low moving over the South Island is bringing cold weather to most areas and is expected to remain there today.
The snowfalls are expected to ease up by this morning.
Meanwhile, people in the North Island can expect patches of rain today, but with some fine breaks.
The Auckland region will get morning showers, before the weather delivers a mostly fine day.
Northland, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay will also get showers, which will ease later today.
In the Wairarapa and surrounding region towards Wellington, there will be some high winds and frosty temperatures.
