At least 1000 walkers have gathered for a "take back the loop" walk at Whangarei's popular Hatea Loop walkway.
The 5pm walk was organised via social media after an attack on a woman jogger on Friday about 6.30am.
A woman in her 20s is in hospital after she was snatched from the loop and taken to a Whangarei address.
A Whangarei man, 40, appeared before a Justice of the Peace in the Whangarei District Court on Saturday charged with sexual violation, kidnapping with intent to have sexual intercourse and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the woman aged in her early 20s.
