Most of the short-term residents of the Waldorf spoken to by the Weekend Herald had considered how they would escape in a fire.
Ting Yan, 27, a data analyst, has lived on the 10th floor for four months and knew about the building's delay in getting a code of compliance certificate because of fire escape issues.
"I've been thinking of how I would get out if there was a fire," she said. "I would run - it worries me a little bit."
Sarah, on the 12th floor for seven months, frets about how she would escape. Although she did not realise the building had only one set of stairs, she was not surprised to hear it.
"It seems like this building has been thrown up," she said, adding that she did not want to give her full name because she feared a bond deposit would not be refunded if she criticised the building.
Olivia Singh, 20, a student from the North Shore, rents her 11th-floor unit and enjoys the location.
"I thought about fire only after I moved in," she said,
Alex Xu, 27, a student, has lived on the seventh floor for a month and is unconcerned about fire.
Most residents said the Waldorf was in an excellent location, they got a good night's sleep and liked living there.
