The Nelson Marlborough District Health Board is cutting 420 people with ear, nose and throat conditions from its waiting lists.
All the patients have been waiting for an assessment with a hospital specialist for longer than six months. The move will not affect people on surgical waiting lists.
Spokesman Keith Rusholme said the move was part of the board's elective services strategy "to provide clarity to patients".
