Wairarapa's Bella Biggs was again the star of first-session action on the second day of the national junior swimming championships being held simultaneously in Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch over the weekend. She was fastest in New Zealand for the girls under 10yrs 50m backstroke with a time of 36.67s and again in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2m 52.94s.
This followed her sensational form on Saturday.
Biggs, from Greytown, was competing in the girls 10yrs and under age group and twice clocked the best in the country, in the 100m freestyle with her time of 1m 9.77s and then in the 200m freestyle where she clocked 2m 33.50s.
On both occasions it was North Shore swimmer Yeonsu Lee who filled the runner-up spot and there was little in it, Lee registering 1m 09.90s for the 100m and 2m 33.66s for the 200m.
Biggs didn't stop there though. She was also second fastest in New Zealand in the 50m butterfly (35.89s) and the 100m backstroke (1m 20.08s) and third fastest in the 50m breaststroke (44.36s). In all five events she returned the best time for the Wellington meet, which was attended by swimmers from the central region.
Another of the Wairarapa team to achieve a best time for the central region was Carterton's Taylah Mawson when she clocked 3m 0.9s for the girls 12yrs 200m breaststroke. That effort also placed her fourth over the whole of the country.
