A 25-year-old Wairarapa woman has broken her back after jumping off a rail bridge.
The woman is being treated in Burwood spinal unit in Christchurch after falling on to rocks after jumping at Double Bridges on the Opaki-Kaipororo road on Wednesday night.
Wairarapa police Senior Sergeant Carolyn Watson said it appeared the woman had fallen about 10 metres.
Police were called to the incident about 6pm and provided immediate first aid to the woman, Mrs Watson said.
The woman was taken to Wairarapa Hospital where she was assessed as having a broken back, before being flown to Burwood spinal unit. Police inquiries into the incident were continuing.
