Warnings that river pollution will get worse as the dairying industry continues to boom have not fazed Wairarapa Water Use Project organisers.
Project director Michael Bassett-Foss said yesterday he had not yet had time to read the details contained in Environment Commissioner Jan Wright's report, released earlier this week, but those behind the planned large scale water storage and distribution plan had their "eyes wide open" on environmental challenges.
Mr Bassett-Foss said the plan was still in its early stages and a comprehensive public consultation process was further down the track.
He said the bottom line would be that any scheme, and those who belonged to it, would have to adhere to environmental laws.
"We have our eyes wide open when it comes to sustainable, well-managed environmental requirements," Mr Bassett-Foss said.
