Wairarapa United are alone at the top of the points table in the 2012 central league football competition.
They went into the weekend's action equal first with Olympic but that situation changed dramatically when Olympic suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of to Wellington United on Sunday, a result which came just 24 hours after Wairarapa United had maintained their unbeaten record with a 2-0 win over Petone at Carterton.
In other central league games, Lower Hutt City thrashed Maycenvale United 7-1, Western Suburbs and Miramar Rangers drew 1-1 and Napier City Rovers beat Tawa 4-0.
Competition points are: Wairarapa United 10, Wellington United 9, Western Suburbs and Olympic 7, Lower Hutt City, Napier City Rovers and Petone 6, Tawa 3, Miramar Rangers 1 and Maycenvale United 0.
Douglas Villa went down 2-1 to Upper Hutt in their Capital second division match on Saturday but the result was no indication of the run of play. Douglas Villa created several more scoring chances than their opposition but, unfortunately, their finishing work did not match their creativity. Sean Jarvis and Troy Burling starred for Douglas Villa with Burling netting their goal.
