Wairarapa umpires step up

Wairarapa's top-ranked cricket umpires will be officiating at a high level this season.
Mark Elliott is part of the New Zealand A panel and Central Districts A panels and has been joined on the latter by Brian Campbell and Johann Fourie.
Their progress comes at a time when the New Zealand Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association is promoting a recruitment drive for members all around the country. NZCUSA board member Grant McAlister says the number of umpires and scorers "does not make great reading".
He said there was a definite need to boost the figures operating in both areas and was asking all associations to help in that respect.
"The new season is closer than we think and recruitment is no easy task," McAlister says.
"We need to act now."
