Wairarapa UCOL will remain untouched by government funding cuts in tertiary education this year, says UCOL spokeswoman Christine Beech.
Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) figures had shown seven polytechnics and universities would receive less government funding this year despite funding for tertiary institutions and industry training organisations rising $49 million, or 1.8 per cent.
Mrs Beech said UCOL, which runs campuses in Masterton, Palmerston North and Whanganui, had initially lost $2 million in funding - for student enrolments, research and community education - although the TEC had revised the figure and restored about $1.1 million.
Funding fell more than $300,000 at Whitireia Polytechnic in Porirua, Nelson-Marlborough Institute of Technology and Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Waikato University and Aoraki Polytechnic lost more than $700,000 and Lincoln University received the greatest cut at $4.7 million.
Mrs Beech said UCOL were expecting a round of cuts and would absorb the shortfall in government funds of about $900,000 for the year.
