Wairarapa trio Tom Quinn, Joel Farley and Kurtis Paine recorded outstanding efforts in the boys' 16 years 800m at the Capital Classic track and field meet at Newtown Park, Wellington, on Friday evening.
Quinn was second in 2m 02.52s, Farley fourth in 2m 05.12s and Paine seventh in 2m 09.05s.
The open women's 800m saw Wairarapa's Stevie Paine take on a quality line-up of older and more experienced runners and she gave a typically strong account of herself in finishing seventh in 2m 18.42s.
In the open men's 400m William Simpson was sixth in the A section with a time of 52.10s while in the B section Bevan Brown was third in 55.68s and Dhruv Raman fourth in 56.05s. Molly Cragh and Mikayla Pearson lined up the B section of the women's 400m with Creagh placing second in 1m 1.8s and Pearson third in 1m 3.70s.
The open men's 3000m event doubled as a national championship and Masterton veteran Tony Price in one of his few appearances on the track after making a name for himself over marathons finished 16th in 10m 19.15s.
There were three Wairarapa competitors in the open men's discus, Alex Fafeita throwing 45.53m to place fourth, Jerry Peseta coming fifth with 44.45m and his brother, Dennis Peseta, 11th with 33m. In the open women's discus Courtnay Fafeita was fourth with 41.98m and Maria Taylor sixth with 29.41m.
