The Wairarapa's attractiveness as a holiday destination continued to drive visitor credit card transactions during the month of January.
According to the latest credit card spend statistics, January was a great month for credit card transactions with 7008 international and 38,169 domestic visitor transactions completed in the region.
Destination Wairarapa general manager David Hancock says the volumes were at record level and show the flow-on effects of tourism spend.
Mr Hancock said statistics show that for every credit card transaction at an accommodation there are 4.5 times as many transactions at a cafe or restaurant; 6.7 more transactions at a food retailer and 3.8 more transactions at a retail outlet.
