Wairarapa qualified for the quarter-finals as top of their pool at the national under-15 girls hockey tournament at North Harbour after beating Northland 3-1 yesterday.
Goals for Wairarapa were scored by Hannah Lang, Brigette Mossman and Emma Smith in their fourth win in as many pool games. They finished with the maximum 12 points, followed by defending champions Canterbury 9, Northland 6, Bay of Plenty 3 and Counties-Manukau 0. Joining Wairarapa and Canterbury in the quarter-finals are Auckland, Manawatu, Waikato, Tauranga, Wellington and Taranaki with Wairarapa drawn to play Tauranga.
Meanwhile, the Wairarapa under-15 boys team went down 1-0 to Counties-Manukau in the national tournament.
