After some seasons in the wilderness Wairarapa is to field a senior representative netball side in 2005.
They have entered a Super League series which will kick off in early April and also include teams from Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kapi Mana and Paraparaumu.
Wairarapa are expected to have at last three home games and they will be played at night in Masterton's new recreation centre.
Former national league player Kelly Sargent (nee Butler) will be player-coach of the Wairarapa team and will also be involved in the selecting of the side, along with Karen Lett and Raewyn Butler.
The selectors will have a difficult task deciding on the 12 to 14 players who will make up the Wairarapa squad judging by the high standard of play at a trial match played at the Colombo Road courts in Masterton this week.
A total of 27 players took part in that trial and 20 of them have been named to participate in a second trial match to be held, also at Colombo Road, on February 16, starting at 6.45pm.
Those players are: Sarah Brooking, Rosie Mahoney, Cindy Cooper,Lisa Butler, Carlene Karaitiana, Emma Bunny, Kelly Matthews, Geraldine Carroll, Kate Anderson, Ella Biggs, Sarah McKenzie, Celia Donaldson, Ashleigh Somerville, Lisa Manihera, Gemma Peppiatt, Kim Holstead, Abby Hull, Pip Lynch, Sue Button and Kelly Sargent.
Any player not available should advise either Trudy Hullena ('phone 3786588) or Jo Booth (3777034).
