The North Island cross country championships will be contested over a testing, hilly course at Taupo on Saturday with a small number of Wairarapa athletes likely to be amongst the starters.
Races will be held in age groups ranging from under-10yrs to 50yrs plus with 11 in all being held.
Perhaps the most interesting event will be the open women's race with two Wellington-based runners in Katie McIlroy and Melissa Moon disputing favouritism Each has gained a victory at their last two meetings and there should be little between them.
On the local scene this Saturday Athletics Carterton will stage a road race, starting at the Rowe-Penny residence in Richmond road.
Last weekend saw Wairarapa clubs involved in the annual Sanders Gough races on the banks of the Hutt river. As expected Hutt and Masterton dominated the Sanders Cup men's events with Trentham United winning both the under-14 Challenge Sield and the walker's section. The best of the Carterton runners was Michael Rowe-Penny who finished well up the field in the open men's race.
