Wairarapa went on a goal-scoring spree in winning an under-15 boys hockey tournament played at Clareville last weekend.
Three matches saw them net a total of 22 goals while conceding just four.
First up they hammered Manawatu 8-0, a pleasing result considering the two teams are drawn in the same pool at their national tourney to be played at Albany early next month.
Wanganui gave Wairarapa plenty to think about in a first half which ended with the home team ahead by just 2-1 but there was only one team in it in the second, Wairarapa scoring six more goals without reply to win 8-1.
The final against Wellington saw Wairarapa depleted by injury, but their reserve players stepped into the breach and were good value in their team's comfortable 6-3 win.
Coach Kim Henson was especially pleased with the latter result as it illustrated the depth of talent in the Wairarapa side.
"It gave the younger and less experienced players the chance to show their skills and they came through with flying colours," he said.
