Mana Romney Stud in Gladstone last week got the highest price the North Island Romney Stud Sale has seen in 10 years.
The romney ram sold for $10,000 at the sale in Feilding on Tuesday, November 15, to Blair and Sally Robertson from Tapanui in Southland. Mana Romney Stud owner Malcolm Wyeth said the high price was due to good meat quality and breeding value figures.
"The ram was very well balanced, he had lots of meat, a good deep carcass, and exceptional meat quality. It also had very good breeding value figures, which meant very good growth and fertility figures."
Mana had 11 rams in the sale and also got the second highest price for a ram at $7200, taking a total of $34,000 out of the sale - the highest average.
The sale as a whole averaged $1783 per ram, with 65 rams entered and 58 sold, increasing turnover by 62 per cent on last year.
