Two Wairarapa players have been named in the Netball Wellington Region under-19 squad to compete at the New Zealand age-group nationals in Nelson in July.
Hannah Brewer and Sheridan Gallon-Puhara are part of a 14-strong squad that also includes 10 Wellington players, three from Hutt Valley and one from Kapiti. The squad will be reduced to 12 for the trip south.
NWR regional manager Raewyn Clarke said the numbers and high quality of the players had seen the selectors for both the Wellington under-21 and under-19 squads increase the number of trials from three to four to ensure each player got the opportunity to shine.
The under-19 side will be coached by Sue Bentley, assisted by former Silver Fern Sharon Gold.
Meanwhile, three teams remained unbeaten in Netball Wairarapa's premier one competition when third-round matches ended at the Colombo Rd courts in Masterton on Saturday.
Sitting on the maximum 9 points are defending champions Harcourts, Celtic and Pioneer Blue, while newcomers Martinborough have 7 points, Makoura College 4 points, Wairarapa College and Trev's 1 have 3 points, St Matthew's and Baywide Gladstone 2 points, and Carterton New World Lynx 1 point.
The draw for this Saturday is: Carterton New World Lynx v Wairarapa College at 10.30am; Harcourts v Martinborough at noon; Pioneer Blue v Makoura College at noon; Celtic v St Matthew's at 1.30pm; Baywide Gladstone v Trev's 1 at 1.30pm.
