One current and three ex-Wairarapa players have been included in the Junior Black Sox hockey training squads which have been named as part of Hockey New Zealand's high performance programme to develop future internationals.
Dane Lett, who plays for Dalefield in the Wellington premier division competition, is one of 30 in the men's squad while the similarly numbered women's squad includes three former Wairarapa reps who are now playing for Wellington-based clubs, Holly Gaskin, Tara Hall and Amanda Pottinger.
The two national squads were announced after the New Zealand under- 21 tournament where Lett, Gaskin, Hall and Pottinger all played for Capital whose men's and women's teams both placed fifth overall.
Their results were:
Men: Capital 5, Canterbury 2; Northern 3, Capital 2; Capital 4, Central 1; Southern 3, Capital 2; Capital 3, Auckland 3; Capital 1, Midlands 1.
Women: Central 4, Auckland 4; Canterbury 1, Capital 0; Capital 1, Southern 1, Capital 1, Northern 0; Midlands 3, Capital 2; Capital 2, Central 2.
Canterbury beat Midlands 2-1 in the women's final while the men's final saw Northern beat Midlands 4-1.
Meanwhile the Dalefield premier's team has moved to third place on the Wellington premier division points table.
They have 6pts, three behind joint leaders Hutt and Indians with 9 and ahead of Northern United and Harbour City-Tawa 5 and Victoria University 4.
Matches in this competition resume after a two-week break this Saturday and Dalefield will be at home to Victoria University who beat them 5-3 in a first-round fixture.
