Wairarapa connections featured strongly during one of the country's premier racedays at Hastings on Saturday.
Maradona, ridden by Opie Bosson and trained by Andrew Campbell at Opaki, won the 3yo Colts and Gelding Handicap.
Later in the card, the Lord Ballina mare Soph took out a 2000m open handicap, again ridden by Bosson. Soph is owned by Jim Wallace, of Opaki, but is now trained in Wanganui by Kevin Myers.
This win followed a victory by Elusive Tracey, who was having her first start for young Opaki trainer Aaron Bidlake.
In the feature race of the day, the $200,000 group one Windsor Park Plate, the horse dubbed the Pride of the Wairarapa, Fritzy Boy, ran second.
Fritzy Boy is trained by Alby MacGregor at Opaki and is co-owned by MacGregor and John Jury, of Greytown.
