Wairarapa had a big say in Massey of Palmerston North winning the men's section of this season's central region inter-club superleague men's hockey competition.
Four ex-Wairarapa players were in the successful Massey line-up, Jesse Workman, Ben Te Whare, Dave Henderson and Jeremy Linton.
Massey were seeded third going into the semi-finals where they edged out top qualifiers High School Old Boys 3-2 and then beat College in a final which went to a penalty shootout after the two teams were locked at 1-1 at the game's end. Massey won the shootout 4-2. College, also from Palmerston North, had better luck in the final of the women's section, taking the title with a 5-4 victory. They too had a strong Wairarapa presence, also including four ex-Wairarapa players in Amanda Schaefer, Charmaine Robertson, Tara Drysdale and Sarah Hannam.
