Wairarapa placed an impressive third at the national under-15 girls hockey tournament at North Harbour last week.
Their only loss was a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wellington in the semifinals who went on to beat Auckland, also by 1-0, in the final.
Their semifinal loss left Wairarapa playing off for third and fourth with Waikato. Goals to Kelsey Linton, Petra Hall and Emma Smith gave them a deserved 3-1 win, and third place overall.
Meanwhile, there was a solid performance too from Wairarapa at the national under-15 boys hockey tournament in Whangarei. They finished 10th after beating Auckland B 7-1 and Otago 5-0 in the first two of their cross-over games and then losing to North Harbour, 4-2.
Goal scorers for Wairarapa against Auckland B were Lucien Burt, Bradley Annear, Andrew Miles, Gus Wakeling (3) and Miles Andrews; and against Otago, Bradley Annear (2), Lucien Burt, Morgan Taylor and Gus Wakeling.
