Capital city rockers Head Like A Hole and Auckland-bred metallers 8 Foot Sativa will stage a double bill debut in Wairarapa to launch a nationwide tour for the veteran bands.
Head Like a Hole have been a part of the New Zealand rock landscape since 1990 and the upcoming wintertour supports their sixth and latest original album, Narcocorrido, says tour spokeswoman Kylie Leggoe.
Narcocorrido is a Mexican folk music subgenre title meaning drug ballad in Spanish and the double act tour of New Zealand includes 10 dates starting in Masterton at King Street Live on July 22 and ending at the Studio in Auckland in early August.
The album Narcocorrido was released in April and was "a marked departure from the bombastic sabbathness" of 2010's Blood Will Out, Ms Leggoe said.
With the inclusion of Simon Nichols on bass, the album had allowed Head Like a Hole "to experiment in the songwriting department while doing what they do best -- pump out massive grooves and spit and hellfire guitar with Nigel 'Booga' Beazley's unique vocal style holding it all together".
"Showing that they are more than a one trick pony with the inclusion of songs like Mexico and Man and Steer, this is a band writing better songs the longer they do this, while still providing the likes of The Art of War and The Rise and Fall of the Sun, which will tear down the walls in venues around the country."
Ms Leggoe said premier metal band 8 Foot Sativa, which rose in the west of Auckland in 1998, had become a household name for extreme metal fans across New Zealand.
The five-piece band, which has had a succession of line-up changes, has a recording catalogue of five studio albums, and a Best Of compilation, dating back to Hate Made Me in 2002 and ranging through to The Shadow Masters in 2013, Ms Leggoe said.
"8 Foot Sativa deliver an uncompromising, raw and full power set and as a double bill with Head Like A Hole, this will be a show you cannot afford to miss.
"Both bands will pull out all the stops to provide their own brands of unique entertainment and both on stage together is the perfect storm."
Tickets cost $47.50 each and are available from today from www.eventfinder.co.nz or 0800 BUY TIX.
