Two Wairarapa cricketers, Liz Perry and Matthew Stringfellow, have been making big waves in England.
Perry, the former Chanel College pupil, has been starring with the bat for the White Ferns in the quadrangular Twenty20 series also featuring India, England and Australia.
Perry came to the wicket against India with the White Ferns in deep strife at 5-3 and scored an unbeaten 48 off 41 deliveries. Her efforts saw her team through to 125-5, enough for them to secure a 25-run victory.
That win gave the White Ferns a chance to reach the series final providing they could beat Australia in their next match, but the Aussies rose to the occasion, winning by six wickets.
Perry provided a rescue act again in the middle order, scoring an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls after the Kiwis had seen three wickets fall for three runs.
The White Ferns finally reached 146-6 with the Aussies reaching their target for the loss of four wickets.
Stringfellow, a regular in the Wairarapa senior men's team last season when playing club cricket for Lansdowne, has been a huge success for Lechlade in the western division of the West England premier league.
He is topping the batting averages at 71.33, having amassed 642 runs, including two centuries and two 50s and a highest score of 135 not out.
Stringfellow has also taken 17 wickets at an average of 29.41, and taken seven catches.
