Police have named the man killed when his vehicle crashed into a bank near the small settlement of Tauweru, 14km east of Masterton, early yesterday morning.
He was James Richard Hay, 31.
Mr Hay was the only occupant of the vehicle, which hit the bank on the Masterton-Castlepoint Road. He was only a few kilometres from home.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
