The Wairarapa connection all got themselves on the scoreboard as the New Zealand Police rugby side walloped their Australian counterparts 77-0 in Melbourne last week.
Nathan Couch started at second five and Jaco Pieterse at fullback while Dave Drummond came off the reserve bench to play on the wing and they were amongst a bevy of try scorers for a New Zealand team which dominated from the word go.
Couch, a regular member of the Wairarapa-Bush side in recent seasons, said bad weather meant the Kiwis went into the match without a serious training run behind them but everything had gone pretty much according to plan.
"It was one of those games where everything we tried seemed to come off, passes stuck and we just kept running in tries," he said. "They (Australia) didn't get any ball, they were basically chasing us all game"
Couch also had some positive news for current Wairarapa-Bush selectors Graeme Cheetham and Lofty Stevenson, saying that while he has yet to make himself available for rep play in 2007 he has "very definitely" not hung up his boots in that respect..
"The body has been a bit sore and it's just a matter of getting back into the right shape & it's still quite possible I'll be there this season if they want me," he said.
