The Wairarapa College under-15 rugby team maintained their unbeaten record for the 2006 season when they scored a comfortable 29-7 win over Dannevirke High School in the grand final of the Manawatu under-15 secondary schools competition.
Their superiority over all other teams in their grade is highlighted by statistics which show they scored a total of 344 points while conceding just 74.
Remarkably all but 44 of their points came from tries ?60 in all- and while most were the result of excellent teamwork left winger Bradley Harriman excelled, his personal try tally reaching 19.
Interestingly enough , however, 28 of the tries were scored by forwards, an indication of their ability to attain quality ball and protect it. They were well led by captain Huib van Vliet.
The Wairarapa College backs were accurate in their ball distribution and generally very good finishers.
Coached by Ewan Smith and Paul Pottinger, the successful squad was:
H.van Vliet (captain), T.Kainuku, C.McFadzean, C.Whittaker, W.Graham, B.Harriman, H.Kerr, R.Roseman, S.Barbour, A.Tunnell, J.Beech, W.Grace, S.Harvey, A.Knowles, S.Harpham, D.Hooper, T.Brown, R.Anderson, T.Rimene, T.Duncan, A.Bradford, D.Hohua.
