Wairarapa College will happily accept the role of underdogs in the Netball Wairarapa premier one grand final against defending champions Harcourts at the Colombo Rd courts, in Masterton, on Saturday.
But that doesn't mean they are conceding defeat - far from it.
Rather it's simply a case of acknowledging thatHarcourts are an experienced unit with a proven record on the big occasion.
"They are a very strong side, tactically and physically," Wairarapa College coach Jenna Lett said of Harcourts yesterday. "They have to be the favourites, no doubt about that."
However, Lett believes if her side get the same flow into their game as they did in their semifinal win over Pioneer Blue last weekend - an upset is possible.
Pioneer Blue had earlier beaten them twice by big margins and Lett was delighted her side answered the call to be more aggressive while maintaining momentum in attack: "We talked about not being intimidated and it will be the same message this weekend ... forget who we are playing and just go out there and give it everything we've got."
Wairarapa College will start with Keiha Isaia-Hapimana and Judy Brown at goal shoot and goal attack respectively, Raewyn Cavubati at wing attack, Danielle McKay at centre, Shyanne Aporo at wing defence, Kahu Brown at goal defence and Georgia Faraimo at goal keep. Cara Butcher, Jessica Childs and Summer Pritchard will be on the bench.
