ALL-ROUNDER Brad Griffith shone with both bat and ball as Wairarapa College cruised to a seven-wicket win over Rathkeale College in the Wairarapa Cricket Umpires Cup match on Sunday.
His ability to maintain a consistent line and length paid big dividends for Griffith when Rathkeale batted first and were all out for 174. His 7.4 overs cost him only 18 runs and he snared four wickets in the process.
The highlight of the Rathkeale innings was the 62-run partnership for the second wicket between Anthony Sprowson and Liam Burling. Sprowson made 42 from 100 balls, including eight 4s, while Burling faced 65 deliveries and struck five 4s in his 39. Apart from Griffith four other Wairarapa College bowlers got among the wickets with Lucien Burt finishing with 2-33 from his nine overs.
Wairarapa College lost their first wicket with just 17 runs on the board but Griffith and Burt then put on 76 runs for the second wicket. Griffith's 50 came from 76 balls and included six fours while Burt was more circumspect, his 58 coming from 120 balls and including five 4s. Nathan Elliott was 39 not out when the winning runs were scored.
