Wairarapa will be battling a lack of preparation when they take on Norths in their opening regional superleague netball match at Porirua tomorrow.
Coach Kelly Sargent has only had time for a handful of practice sessions for the Wairarapa squad and she concedes they will take substantial improvement out of their first encounter.
"There is plenty of potential there but obviously it will take a game or two for the best combinations to sort themselves out,' she said.
Wairarapa have little knowledge of Norths, who play in the Kapi Mana competition but that doesn't worry Sargent, who has always worked on the principle that you concentrate on your performance rather than worrying too much about the strengths and weakness of the opposition.
"There won't be any weak sides in this competition so we're expecting a hard game," she said.
Sargent is also sure to impress upon her team the need to play a physical style of game as past history shows that superleague games are invariably bruising affairs.
Just who will make up the starting combination for Wairarapa had not been finalised at the time these notes were penned but whoever takes the court there will be a good mix of youth and experience.
The full Wairarapa squad is: Bridgette Minehan, Perri Tatana, Lisa Manihera, Geraldine Carroll, Hope Phillips, Casey Pederson, Tania Davidson, Emma Foote, Katie Wyeth, Carlene Karaitiana, Sarah Brooking, Jesse Smith, Harriet Somerville and Victoria Green.
