Westpac spokesman Chris Mirams said the job cuts have "nothing to do with individual branches".
Westpac branches in Masterton and Carterton will be unaffected by a nationwide company restructure.
The banking company has been under scrutiny since Monday after rumours that 600 to 800 jobs would be cut nationwide.
Westpac spokesman Chris Mirams confirmed the job cuts have "nothing to do with individual branches," andthat job cuts would be nowhere near the 100 mark.
Robert Reid from First Union, who received the job-loss tip-off, said Westpac had assured him that any such cuts would be minimal.
"Westpac head office tells us that there are only 20 to 30 jobs nationally that are implicated in the restructuring," he said.
"They have completely denied that there are 700 to 800 jobs at risk, which was suggested in a rumour.
"And where they are making the smaller amount of job cuts, they have been quite good in communicating it with us so as it stands currently we will be taking their word on the issue."
