Police have named a 70-year-old woman killed in a two-car crash near Waiouru on Tuesday.
Lower Hutt resident Carol Dawn Gibson died when her car crossed the centre line and smashed into another vehicle on the Desert Road at 2:40pm on Tuesday.
Four of the second car's occupants were injured,one of whom was left in a serious condition.
Rescue helicopters took the injured people to hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.
